Forget, terrorism, embrace and peace are four words on a placard by one of the recently surrendered terrorists who begged Nigerians for forgiveness in Borno. How frightening!
Unlike those formidable words, the motive to forgive terrorists is not new; we do remember that there was once a bill on the floor of National Assembly proposing foreign education for repentant terrorists by this government. So, what’s shocking again?
Terrorists have enjoyed what the average Nigerian couldn’t enjoy. They have periodic stipends; they get nice meals and suitable dresses. Could they have gotten eye-brow federal agencies jobs too, who will question them? Perhaps, a repentant Boko Haram can become president.
Innocent civilians and soldiers alike are being killed and terrorised. Students are packed like swamp of bees from school premises; the girlchild is forced into marriage and places of worship became the daily targets of attack. Yet, nobody could better have understood this like one who had lost his/her loved ones in the hands of these evil beggars.
Today in the country, a new language of communication is widely in circulation. It was a language first used by the President some few months ago when he felt threatened by the growing activities of the IPOB insurrectionists in the southeast; he has spoken same language to Yoruba Nation agitators in the southwest too.
Repentant terrorists are begging you for a new life, again. They asked to forget terrorism and embrace peace. What rhetoric of life, even the evil killers don’t wish to die. Are they afraid of death, too? Can they be forgiven, what of the lives they have destroyed?
