AS the Oyo State House of Assembly braces to screen second set of commissioner-nominees on Tuesday, many have wondered who Abiodun Aikomo in the list is and where he is coming from? Aikomo is the 43-year-old immediate past Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Financial Crimes Compliance and Contracts Implementation. Prior to that, for about a decade, he honed his legal skills at one of the foremost legal firms in Lagos.
In addition to his responsibility as Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari in the Office of Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Aikomo was also appointed Executive Secretary, Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee by Buhari in January this year.
Between 2019 and May 2023, he was a statutory member of the Governing Council of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). He is currently a member of the Rule of Law Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
On Friday, Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Muhammed Fadeyi read nine additional names of commissioner-nominees forwarded by Governor Seyi Makinde and disclosed that they would be screened on Tuesday.
They list has Abiodun Aikomo, Segun Olayiwola, Wasiu Olatubosun and Abdulwaheed Soliu, Majeed Mogbojunbola, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Williams Akinfunmilayo, Dotun Oyelade and Obafemi Ademola Ojo, as nominees.
Of the nine, three, Olatunbosun, Olayiwola and Olaleye, are returnee commissioners, while few others also served in various capacities during Makinde’s first term.
Earlier in June, the Assembly had approved the first set of nominees who were commissioners during the governor’s first term. They were: Akinola Ojo, Finance; Seun Ashamu, Energy and Mineral Resources; Faosat Joke-Sanni, Women Affairs; Daud Shangodoyin, Works and Transport; Musbau Babatunde, Budget and Economic Planning; Adeniyi Adebisi, Agriculture and Natural Resources and Toyin Balogun.
An indigene of Fiditi in Afijio Local Government having two Masters degrees from University of Lagos and University of London and various professional certificates from London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Cambridge, Judge Business School, Aikomo is a Certified Fraud Examiner of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, USA. He also took a Leadership Training programme at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Aikomo is married and the union is blessed with children.
