Members of the old students’ association in the country have been urged to complement government efforts at improving standards of education in their alma mater.
Speaking on the sidelines of reunion activities of Oke-Ado high school, Ibadan, Oyo State on July 31, 2021, the chairman of the planning committee, Alhaji Abiola Azeez, said that many schools, especially those established in the early 1980s, are calling for urgent attention of stakeholders to ensure quality education.
Alhaji Azeez, who said that members of old students association need to help in the rehabilitation of old and dilapidated structures, provision of educational materials and school furniture, beautification of the school environment, among other areas of concern, added that doing such would in no small measure help to take their alma mater to greater heights.
He commended efforts of the old students at providing conducive learning environment in the school, particularly in such areas of provision of furniture, school toilet, beautification of school structures, payment of NECO fees for indigent students, provision of facilities to combat COVID-19 and encouragement of sporting activities, among other areas of assistance.
He, however, enjoined other members to strive to contribute their quota to the greater development of the school, saying that education remains lasting legacy that can be bequeathed to future generations.
He said that the planned reunion activities of the school would afford old students of different sets to meet and chart way forward for better development, adding that the occasion would also be used to ratify the constitution of the association.
The chairman of the planning committee said that electoral committee would also be constituted to usher in umbrella leadership for the association, which he said would include different sets of the old students’ association for more improved coordination.
