A former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the institution, Prof Peter Okebukola has commended the Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde for sponsoring the higher education of over 70 indigenes of the state in the Alolade Oyinlola College of Health Sciences and Information Technology, Okuku, Osun State.
He made this known during the maiden matriculation ceremony of the school and described his action as, second to none saying, “he has invested in education.”
Okebukola described him as a man of mission and vision who believes education is power and the only key, that can liberate all and sundry from their ignorance saying, “for sponsoring his state indigenes, he appreciates education and knows the great impacts education could play in their different lives.”
He maintained that, his investment investment in education remains the best thing for whoever desires development sustainably, and that, ” if you desire accelerated development, invest in science, health and information technology.”
The BOT Chairman thereafter charged him to maintain the tempo saying, that good leaders are known and measured by their humanitarian achievements.
In his own remark, the institution’s proprietor and former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said the day marks a significant milestone in the history of the institution and the lives of new students.
According to him, “the college has assembled a team of esteemed academics and professionals to mentor students and ensure they receive top-notch education and training.
“We are also in the process of securing National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation for both Ordinary and Higher National Diploma programs. This will enable our graduates to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, further enhancing their opportunities,
“The college is not only to Honour my late mother but also to equip the youth with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive world.
“The college has established partnerships with institutions, organizations, and government agencies to provide students with practical experience and industry exposure, preparing them for life after graduation.
“The School of Health Sciences has already commenced operation, Oyinlola said the School of Information Technology is set to commence in 2025.”
He appreciated both Makinde, Oyo state governor and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State for their support and highlighted the institution’s partnerships with various organisations and government agencies to offer students practical experience and industry exposure.
In his submission, Osun state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, commended Oyinlola for his love for education, saying that the state university he established is being managed properly by the present government.
Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, the governor pledged that, the Osun government will look for ways of supporting the college.
However, Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, stated that “the initiative to sponsor students was hailed as a significant step in advancing education and human capital development in Oyo State, covering students from all 33 local government areas in the state.
“Efforts would be made to double the number of students to encourage Oyinlola for his contribution to education when he was governor of Osun.”
