The Anambra State Chairman of Igbo Social-Cultural Organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, has commended Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state for his cordial relationship with the South-East traditional rulers.
Chief Okeke-Ogene, made the commendation during the 2019 Anambra State Association of Town Union (ASATU), community service award, held over the weekend at Oma Event Centre Awka, Anambra state capital.
He asked Ndigbo to support their traditional rulers for peace to reign in their communities.
He encouraged Ndigbo to always dress in Igbo attires to showcase the beautiful culture of the people.
He frowned at indecent dressing among Igbo youths like sagging and other ways of dressing that expose parts of the bodies that should be covered, noting that these are alien to Igbo culture.
Chief Okeke-Ogene also re-echoed the think home philosophy of the Obiano administration, stressing the need for Ndigbo to think-home for the development of the region.
On the actualisation of the Igbo presidency in 2023, the state chairman, said it can only be possible if Igbo join hands together and strive towards its actualisation, stressing that presidency cannot be given on a platter of gold.

Earlier in his welcome address, the president of the Association, Chief Alex Onukwue, said that they organised the community service award to solicit support and to inform the awardees, in persons of Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife, Senator Victor Umeh, Dr Godwin Maduka, the member representing Anambra East/West Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe and other relevant stakeholders in the state, about the planned unveiling of ASATU ‘Biko Suba Igbo’ (Let speak Igbo) Emblem and the completion of ASATU Cultural Cente Mgbakwu, in Awka South Local Government Area.
According to him: “As leaders of the 179 communities that constitute Anambra, we felt the need to organise this programme because, we know that there is a need for a cordial relationship between the government, private sector, well-to-do individuals and the people.
One of the awardees and the Senator representing Anambra central senatorial district at the 8th Senate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, who was delighted in hugging his predecessor, Senator Umeh, for congratulating her shortly after the Appeal Court sitting in Enugu state uphold her victory, commended the competitive spirit of communities in the state, stressing that he had a long intellectual interest in activities of ASATU as a union.
According to her, she said that she was impressed with the award, stressing that she would grant them maximum support needed to succeed in the completion of the ongoing project.
Senator Victor Umeh, who was also delighted at the event, urged the Association to go into communities to let people in rural areas known the achievements of the APGA led- state government through their community-based awareness campaigns.
He urged Senator Ekwunife to maintain his eleven months legislative achievement so far, to the constituents.
