Residents and business owners in Iro Town, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun, have staged a peaceful protest over the blockage of a strategic road in their community, urging the state government to take immediate action to address the situation and prevent any further escalation.
The road, which has been blocked by a fence erected by an individual who claims to have bought the land, has affected over 200 houses, sand excavation sites, farmlands, companies, villages, and fishing sites.
Community leaders, including Chief Mohammed Aro, Chairman of Awodi Oke Community, explained that the blockage of the road has caused untold hardship to the residents and business owners in the area.
“We have been living peacefully and doing our businesses in this area until someone claimed to have bought the road to the community and erected a fence to block the road,” Aro said.
The community members are calling on the Ogun State Government, the police, and the Local Government Chairman to intervene and rescue them from the situation, which they fear may degenerate into a communal crisis.
