A group of transporters, Concerned Transporters in South West of Nigeria, has vehemently opposed Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya’s (MC Oluomo) bid for the presidency of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
In a communique signed by Comrade Taiwo Ariyo and Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim, the group cited MC Oluomo’s lack of qualifications and questionable leadership style as reasons for their opposition.
“MC Oluomo’s leadership style is unacceptable.
“He used union resources for personal gain, neglecting members’ welfare. His inability to read or write is also a major concern,” Ariyo alleged.
The group urged members from Ondo and Ekiti states not to be swayed by propaganda and to consider more qualified candidates from the South West region.
“It is rather unfortunate that our brothers in Ondo and Ekiti states don’t know what our people went through under Oluomo when he was at the helm of affairs in the state. No single person or individual from Lagos state council would pray to have the kind of Oluomo leadership at the national headquarters of the union. Our people saw hell under him.
“Again, this is man who fought with almost all the leaders he had worked with. He fought the former state chairmen, Alhaji Olohunwa and Alhaji Agbede and at the National level, he fought Baruwa and he is fighting Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, so how do you expect such a person to occupy sensitive leadership position like NURTW presidency.”
MC Oluomo’s resignation as chairman of the Lagos State chapter of NURTW has sparked speculation about his next move. However, this opposition may hinder his chances of securing the national presidency.
