Chairman of the union, Alhaji Salihu Adamu (Sarkin Yaki) disclosed this to Journalist in Lafia yesterday (Tuesday).
According to him, “about ninety (95) per cent of our members in NURTW are not drug addicts, because we have been up and doing, training and educating them on the danger attached to alcohol and drugs.
“The ban on alcoholic drinks is one of our condition given to all motorist before engaging them into the transport services.”
“Though we cannot say they are all good, we are ready to sanction any driver that is found with hard drugs or any alcohol that would course accident while driving.”
“Before now, there was no week past without hearing the story of an accident involving seven to eight vehicles along Lafia to Akwanga road”.
He added, that it was the union’s effort in creating awareness to motorist particularly getting drunk before driving, which has helped in reducing the rate of an accident on the major roads in the state.
The chairman further said those who are addicted to alcohol, can only go for the drinks after they retired back home and not during working hours.
