The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has warned those herders, farmers fomenting trouble in parts of Iseyin and Oriire local government areas to desist.
State Commandant, Oyo NSCDC, Adaralewa Michael, gave this warning at the state headquarters of the command against the backdrop of last Saturday’s altercation between herders and farmers in Oriire local government when herders were reported to have grazed on farmlands in the area.
Adaralewa noted that the crisis could have escalated but for the quick intervention of the Agro Rangers of the NSCDC last Saturday in Oriire and in Iseyin last Tuesday where a similar altercation occurred between herders and farmers.
Rather than foment trouble, Adaralewa, who was represented by Mr Femi Ete, enjoined citizens and residents to embrace another and to live together without minding their tribe and religion.
Speaking while handing over motorcycles and tricycles purchased by the cooperative society of the corps to the beneficiaries, Adaralewa preached peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in the mentioned communities and across the state.
The event also saw Adaralewa disclose that the anti-human trafficking and child protection unit of the NSCDC had settled 315 cases of rape, domestic violence, child trafficking, molestation, child abandonment and child slavery, over the course of the year.
This is as he added that the peace and conflict resolution unit has settled over 500 cases relating to tenancy/land dispute, family crisis, farmers and herders crisis and other domestic matters.
Speaking further, Adaralewa asserted the commitment of the NSCDC to ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.
He also declared Oyo State as relatively peaceful, which he said is a result of the collaboration between the NSCDC and sister agencies in the state.
