The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has refuted recent media reports regarding a case of kidnapping, banditry, and the supply of arms and ammunition.
According to the Corps, the report misrepresented the incident as recent and wrongly identified the culprits as NSCDC personnel, which it described as misleading and inaccurate.
The National Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Mr. Babawale Afolabi, issued a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, clarifying that the arrests in question occurred in October 2022 and involved individuals who were personnel of the Corps at the time but were dismissed in 2023.
“It is important to clarify that the suspects acted independently and did not represent the NSCDC in any capacity.
“The recent court proceedings are part of the ongoing judicial process related to these arrests.
“It is also important to note that the NSCDC management and high command have implemented various reforms and initiatives aimed at strengthening national security. The Corps strongly condemns any act of sabotage or breach of security.
“These efforts are being carried out in close collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of citizens nationwide,” Afolabi stated.
He reiterated that NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, maintains a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, indiscipline, and unpatriotic actions among personnel.
He emphasized that the three individuals arrested were dismissed in 2023 and are no longer operatives of the NSCDC.

He said: “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in all its operations.
“To enhance security, the Corps has actively collaborated with various security agencies through training and retraining programs, joint task forces, and numerous other operations.
“In this regard, we urge all media outlets to report accurately, ensuring balanced coverage while avoiding sensationalism and misrepresentation, which can erode public trust and damage the image of the Corps.
“Nonetheless, the NSCDC remains committed and unwavering in safeguarding the nation’s critical assets and infrastructure, as well as protecting lives and property.
“The Corps is dedicated to public service with integrity, discipline, and professionalism,” the statement concluded.
