Rev. Dr Samuel Aboyeji, the General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, has assured Nigerians, in light of the country’s current economic hardships, that no situation, no matter how dire, is beyond God’s redemption.
Aboyeji, in a sermon themed “Manifesting His Glory Through Wonders,” delivered on Sunday, November 17, 2024, during the National Convention Service, emphasized faith, unity, and divine intervention as the keys to overcoming the nation’s current struggles.
Drawing parallels between the miraculous transformation of water into wine at the wedding in Cana of Galilee, Rev Aboyeji highlighted that even the most impossible circumstances can be turned around by divine intervention.
“Jesus must first of all be invited to your life before you can invite Him to take care of your problems,” he urged, emphasizing the importance of inviting God’s presence through prayers, praise, and thanksgiving.
Speaking on Nigeria’s current state, he called for hope and trust in God, saying “The Nigerian situation is not irredeemable. But we must apply the right instruments and the right key.”
“Keep your praise,” he insisted. “God who fed 5,000 in the wilderness with just five loaves and two fish can multiply anything you have. Give thanks that you are alive, give thanks that you still have a nation to call home.”
Aboyeji called for national unity, encouraging Nigerians to work together in faith. “We must stop blaming our leaders and take collective responsibility,” he urged.
“We need to call on God together, offer our praises and prayers, and God will not leave us in our situation. But it’s not just about the prayer; faith is the other key.” Drawing from Hebrews 4:2, Aboyeji reminded the congregation, “Some had it, it did not profit them because it did not mix with faith in them.”
In a post-sermon interview, Aboyeji, who began a second term of five years in office alongside his wife, Rev. Mrs. Olabisi Aboyeji, further elaborated on the steps necessary for Nigeria to regain its greatness.
“There are too many prophecies about this nation. I’m going to say it cannot fail. God has declared this nation as the glory of Africa; that prophecy cannot fail,” he said.
Continuing, the Foursquare Gospel Church General Overseer emphasized that gradual change and careful decision-making are vital for long-term success, advising the government to take it easy.
“They should not rush us…we all know our way is far, and we need to make haste. But let’s make haste slowly. That would be my advice. It’s getting too hard; let them soften it a little”.
