IN its determination to assist Zamfara State Government in its fight against tuberculosis and other diseases, the Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, a subsidiary of Chevron Nigeria Limited and its Agbami co-venturers, have donated a chest clinic fully equipped with a standard x-ray machine, male and female wards, treatment rooms, laboratories and Gene Xpert machine to the state government.
It will be recalled that the co-venturers had donated 25 chest clinics to different states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Abuja since its inauguration in 2004.
The Agbami co-venturers comprise the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Famfa Oil Limited, Statoil Nigeria Limited and Petroleo Brasileiro Nigeria Limited (Petrobras).
While presenting the Chest Clinic to the state government in Abuja, the Director, Star Deep Water, Mr Richard Kennedy, said the project was a reflection of the commitment of the group to ensure availability and affordability quality healthcare for all and sundry.
Mr Kennedy, whose message was delivered by the Director of Government Affairs, Chevron Nigeria, Mr Gbenga Aluko, said the Star Deep Water along with its co-venturers had continued to ensure that its social performance intervention, particularly in the areas of education and health was spread throughout the country, so as to add value nationwide.
He therefore urged the beneficiaries to efficiently manage it and ensure its sustainability for the benefit of the entire populace.
Also speaking, Chairman, Famfa Oil Limited, Mrs Modupe Alakija stated that through the project, the company was collaborating with the other Agbami partners to provide improved and quality healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
Represented by Senior Joint Venture Accountant of the company, Mr Okewole Oladapo, the chairman said the company had been fulfilling its corporate responsibility role to Nigeria through its social investments in various parts of the country.
According to her, “the advancement of healthcare delivery holds special attraction for us at famfa Oil and we are happy that the 26 chest clinics which we have donated across Nigeria have helped to contain the spread of tuberculosis and other contagious diseases nationwide”.
Managing Director of Statoil Nigeria Limited, Mr Heine Melkevik in his speech, said the company believed in sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership, pointing out that in alliance with other parties in the Agbami field, Statoil was helping to ensure, in a multifaceted approach, that Nigerians have access to good healthcare, technical skills, quality education and employment opportunities.
“We are indeed proud of the achievements of the co-venturers in executing sustainable projects such as chest clinics for quality healthcare delivery to the people, electronic libraries to enhance teaching and learning, and scholarships for critical manpower development for the country,” Melkevik said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Statoil’s Government and Public Affairs Manager, Mr Akeju Ajibola.
