In separate goodwill messages, the Vice-Chancellors congratulated the university management, athletes and officials who participated in the just-concluded event, acknowledging the leading position of the university in hosting sporting events.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Seddi Maimako, in his goodwill message, congratulated the University of Ilorin ‘’for successfully hosting this year’s games.’’
Professor Maimako also rejoiced with contingents and officials that participated in the games for their spirits of sportsmanship.
In his own goodwill message, the Vice-Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Professor Michael Ajisafe, reminded participants of the need to ‘’keep in your minds that trophies are ephemeral but memories last forever”.
While congratulating the University of Ilorin, Professor Ajisafe observed that ’’one of the cardinal objectives of the games is to encourage the development of sports and spirit of sportsmanship in all the participating institutions’’.
Also, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba, pointed out that ‘’NUSSA Games, apart from being a unifying tool for staff of all Nigerian Universities, raises the health status of staff in our universities”.
Professor Shehu Alhaji Musa, Vice-chancellor of the Kano University of Science & Technology, Wudil, also sent his goodwill message.

He submitted that “NUSSA Games have been in the forefront at forging unity between staff of various disciplines and ethnic background in the country.”
Professor Musa added that sporting activities have been recognised as a strong instrument for promoting understanding and paving ways for exchange of valuable ideas and human resources between individuals and groups.
On his own part, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor Abdullahi Bala, said “I have the pleasure to congratulate NUSSA Council, members of the University of Ilorin and her Community, staff of Nigerian Universities, lovers of sports and well-wishers on this opportunity of competing to bring out the best in our staff.”
“As an age long vehicle of social, political and economic engineering, sports portend the requisite ability to foster the bond of lasting friendship”, he said.
In his goodwill message, the Vice-Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello, felicitated with the University of Ilorin and participants at NUSSA 2018.
The BUK VC opined that “this type of staff sporting events will from time-to-time foster the spirit of unity and friendship among our University administrators and academics.”
At the closing ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem, commended the spirit of sportsmanship of participants throughout the competition.
Professor Abdulkareem, who was represented by the former acting CMD of the University of Ilorin Teaching (UITH), Professor Buhari, noted that the ‘’ultimate aim of the contest is to build and maintain healthy workforce for our nation’’.
The festival featured Athletics, Ayo, Basketball, Badminton, Chess, Darts, Draught, Football and Handball. Other games competed for included Scrabble, Squash, Swimming, table-tennis and Lawn Tennis.
