The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has charged the Federal Government and all stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to address the exploitation and abuse of workers in the sector.
According to the President of NUPENG, Comd. Williams Akporeha and the General Secretary, Comd. Afolabi, this is very imperative in order to build capacity and for the development and accentuation of human capital development and robust youth empowerment.
In its Independence Anniversary message, the union said: “We also use the opportunity of this auspicious occasion to admonish all statutory institutions, agencies and Oil and Gas industry stakeholders saddled with the responsibility of protecting workers’ interest to wake up to their responsibilities by addressing the exploitation and abuse of workers in order to build capacity and for the development and accentuation of human capital development and robust youth empowerment for the overall good of our country in accordance with best industry and international practices.
The message read: “The National Leadership of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) heartily felicitates with our members and the rest of Nigerians as our country, today marks the 59th anniversary of independence as a sovereign nation.

“As we look forward to another year in our national life, we are more than confident as a Union that our tomorrow will be better than our yesterday and today. Nigeria has got the human and material resources to excel and we shall lead the way in that journey to our manifest destiny.
“We, therefore, admonish all Nigerians that in all our plans, and in all our words and our actions, we must stand together in love and unity, as one people under God.”
