The Niger State Liquor Licensing Board has announced its plans to destroy seized alcohol worth over N20 million in Suleja township, located in the Suleja local government area of the state.
During an interactive session with the press at his office in Minna, the state capital, Mallam Ibrahim Muhammad Bonu, the Secretary of the Board, revealed that the confiscated alcoholic drinks marked for destruction were seized due to violations of the liquor prohibition, sales, and consumption laws of Niger State.
Bonu appealed to liquor vendors in the state to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations governing the operation of liquor sales.
He emphasized that any vendors caught violating the liquor laws or employing underage individuals to sell their alcoholic drinks would have their premises sealed and locked up.
He also urged them to abide by the designated operating hours as stipulated in the bye-laws of the Niger State Liquor Licensing Board, warning that non-compliance could lead to their expulsion from the business and possible prosecution.
Furthermore, Bonu issued a stern warning to employees of the Board, emphasizing the need for them to discharge their duties in accordance with the liquor laws.
He vowed that any individual or group of persons found neglecting their responsibilities or colluding with liquor vendors to circumvent due process as outlined in the liquor laws would face legal consequences.
