New Oyo, Ekiti CPs resume, seek cooperation to fight crime

The new Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Mr Abdullahi Chafe, has said that he was in the state to tackle crime and sanitise it.

Chafe, who addressed newsmen in his office on Tuesday after resumption of duty, also stressed that he was not in Ekiti for politics but on strict professional police duties.

The police commissioner said he resumed in Ekiti last Friday, and pointed out that he was transferred to the state from Kogi State by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, to fight crime, promising not to sacrifice professionalism on the altar of politics that could taint his career.

Reacting to allegations that he was a Katsina State indigene, and had been posted to Ekiti on the grounds of politics, made by some people of Ekiti State, Chafe said his mission in Ekiti is to sanitize it and make it a no-go-area for criminals, so that investors could see the state as a safe haven.

According to him, “I am a Nigerian, and wherever I go to, I see myself as part of that community. I can’t come here to cause trouble. I have worked in all the six geopolitical zones of the country and I have good records.

“I am old enough to form my own principles and these principles will surely guide me in the discharge of my duties.”
