New joint security outfit “Delta Hawk” commences operation 

A new Joint security outfit aimed at stemming the worrisome crime wave in Delta is being set up by the state government.

The state ministry of Justice already fine tunned the law that establishes the new security architecture code-named “Delta Hawk”.

Recalled that heinous crimes such as kidnapping, robbery, herders/community attacks hit the roof in recent times in the state to an extent that traditional rulers expressed worries in their various domains before summoning the police commissioner, Hafiz Inuwa to their meeting last week for a dialogue.

Announcing the birth of the Delta Hawk at a press conference in Asaba on Tuesday, the Secretary to the state government, Barr Chiedu Ebie, said the new outfit is going to be solely funded by the state government which he said will run it with the active participation of all the security agencies and vigilante groups in the state.

According to him, there was no loss of confidence in the security forces in the state in nipping criminality to its bearest level, adding that government had to review the security situation in the state before coming up with the idea as a step towards the improvement of security issues.

The secretary to government explained that the security outfit being put in place by the south-south region governors under the aegis of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta(BRACED) commission notwithstanding, the state had to come up with a workable solution to deal with its security challenges.

Ebie said a lot of caution was being taken to ensure we get it right.

“We will start small and in the course of implementation will improve on it”.
