Adamawa state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has secured 174 convictions of drug offenders in the last one year.
The state commander, Mr Femi Agboalu who disclosed this today in a press briefing in Yola said the period under review, the command made a seizure of 1,081.9kg of cannabis sativa (Indian herm), 7 drums of formalin commonly called ( suck and die) and 28.013kg of cough syrup with codeine.
The commander, while highlighting the successes of his command, noted the year under review witnessed a reduction of persons arrested by 25 percent and increase in the number of seizures made by 33 percent.
According to him ” while thanking God for no lost of any officer and men of the command in the last three years added that the command is faced with inadequate mobility to fight the menace of drugs abuse because of bigger responsibility added with the establishment offices in all the 21 local government and six area command in Adamawa state”
He thanked the Chief executive officer of NDLEA, General Buba Marwa Rtd, and the Adamawa state Governor, Ahamdu Finitri for their support to the command stressing that without these supports, the command would not have achieved this.
Other items recovered in the last one year include three vehicles and one motorbike used in the commission of the crime and the sum of eight hundred and twenty-one thousand, two hundred and seventy naira (N 821,270,000) were forfeited to the federal government.
Mr Agboalu added that the command has also successfully treated, counseled and rehabilitated fourth two drug dependants and three of them have been reunited with their families.
“The command, in the period under review had sixty-six Drug Abuse Preventive Education (DAPE) / War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) in schools, work place, communities and faith based organizations with over 32,000 persons in attendance across the state,” the Commander said.
