NDLEA clamps down on users of ‘skrushy’ in Oyo

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command, says it will arrest and prosecute sellers of ‘skrushy’, a stimulant of potpourri of illicit and controlled drugs.

“Skrushy” is a cocktail drink that contains a mixture of different hard drugs including cannabis sativa, codeine, tramadol and watermelon.

The State Commandant, Mrs Omolade Faboyede, said this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan, warning that operatives had commenced raids on hotels, clubs and entertainment spots to apprehend peddlers and substance abusers.

According to Faboyede, a raid conducted on Sunday on such facilities within the Adamasingba and Mokola areas of Ibadan led to the interception of 100 litres of the cocktail drink popularly called Skrushy.

“The raid resulted in the interception of over 100 litres of cocktail drink popularly called ‘Skrushy’ with Chapman straw and other Chapman paraphernalia.

“In an earlier announcement, the agency cautioned drinking joints popularly known as beer parlour and hotels against allowing the sales of skrushy and other illicit and abusive substances within their premises.

“This should serve as a warning to the public, that whoever is caught in the act of sales and usage of skrushy will henceforth be prosecuted by the NDLEA.

“Ignorance of the law is no excuse and we will not fail to do our work in order to rid our society of illicit substances; anyone caught will not be spared and the law will take its full course,’’ she said.
