THE Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Professor Bappa Aliyu, has vowed to ensure that teacher education is strengthened and given priority attention in the country.
Aliyu, speaking through the Head of Corporate Affairs of the Commission, Mr Isaac Ameh, in Abuja, said the current administration attached great importance to the teaching profession and would do all that was necessary to improve on the quality ofteacher education in Nigeria.
He said since assumption of office as the Executive Secretary of the Commission, has been working with relevant stakeholders in teacher education so as to address most of the challenges facing colleges of education in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary has accordingly visited most of the colleges across the country to ascertain particular challenges faced by the institutions.
Aliyu, said he was ready to ensure quality teacher education, through the production of quality teachers and the regulation of minimum standard set for teacher development.
He said: “This will be in terms of facilities which will boost teaching and learning processes.”
He said teachers occupied important position in translating educational policies into practice, saying government would support all initiatives aimed at promoting quality teacher education.
