The State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, had during the commissioning of the project on October 1, 2016, said the project gulp N500 million which the state government got from the N10 billion bond from the Federal Government.
A resident of Akwanga who pleaded anonymity while speaking to Nigerian Tribune, said the market was allocated to top persons in government who sublet it to traders at an exorbitant price, making it difficult for petty traders to own any shop in the market.
Nigerian Tribune visit to the abandoned market, revealed that grasses, reptiles, and other dangerous animals have taken over the market as the market overhead tank was covered with grasses.
When contacted via phone, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Tanko Zubairu, denied that the government has not abandoned the market.
He explained that the government is still working on issues hampering the full utilization of the market.
