The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Aliyu Bello, emphasised that Nasarawa belongs to all residents and is not exclusive to any particular tribe or religion.
Bello made this assertion during a press conference in Lafia on Wednesday while responding to the Appeal Court’s judgement affirming Abdullahi Sule as the governor of Nasarawa State.
He clarified, “Nasarawa State does not belong to the PDP or any other political party but to the entire citizenry of the Nigerian nation who reside and conduct business within the framework of the law.
Therefore, whoever is democratically elected to lead the state at any given time and in any capacity must be granted the full authority and legitimacy they deserve.”
The APC chairman emphasised that any contrary action is treasonous and subject to punishment, urging opposition leaders to be mindful and cautious in their statements.
He highlighted the large crowd that welcomed Governor Sule from the Appeal Court to Nasarawa, citing it as an indication that the mandate was genuinely given to him by the people of the state.
“Members of the press, you witnessed the enthusiastic crowd of jubilant people who lined the highways from Karu, Keffi, Kokona, Akwanga, Nasarawa-Eggon, and Lafia, the state capital, to give His Excellency, Engr. A. A. Sule, a hero’s welcome as he returned to the state from the Appeal Court in Abuja.
“However, we note with great concern that despite the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Hon. David Ombugadu, expressing their intention to appeal to the Supreme Court against the Court of Appeal judgement, they are speaking and behaving in a manner that borders on perfidy.
“Members of the press, you might have heard unbecoming remarks in the media from the PDP Chairman, Mr. Francis Orogu, echoed by some of the party’s gullible and fervent supporters.
In their bid to attain power through unconventional means, the PDP in the state is perpetuating misleading propaganda aimed at disrupting the harmony among the people of Nasarawa State, who have coexisted as one big family and citizens of Nigeria for generations,” Bello stated.
He urged the people of the state to maintain peace and continue their regular activities as indigenous inhabitants, while also supporting Governor Sule in his endeavours to succeed.
