My Relationship with Tuface, Davido, others —Bjay

Nigerian music star Bolaji Babatunde Arowa, widely known as Bjay Lawrence, is set to make a significant impact on the music industry with his upcoming EP. Bjay has been making waves as both a singer and producer, blending his classical music training with a natural talent for various instruments.

Reflecting on his start, he shared, “I was always around music, playing instruments like the recorder, piano, and guitar. It just came naturally to me.”

His formal education includes a background in classical music, and he also taught music in schools. He furthered his studies in Business Administration at Lagos State University. His professional music career took off in 2015 with the release of his debut single, Fly Away. By 2017, he signed with Greenpage Records, where he released notable tracks like Ayo Ni and Gbotemi, the latter featuring a music video directed by Clarence Peters.

Music, for Bjay, is both a family tradition and a personal passion. He explained, “I chose music because it comes naturally to me and runs in my family. It’s a way of expressing my creativity and my deepest thoughts.”

As a producer, Bjay emphasizes the importance of creativity and continuous learning. “To be a successful music producer, you need a passion for creativity and consistent learning,” he noted. “Being able to play one or more musical instruments is a significant advantage, although things have changed in the industry.”

Bjay’s extensive experience includes producing for a wide array of artists, both local and international. He proudly stated, “I’ve worked with artists from different backgrounds of music, local and international, including Tuface, Davido, Patoranking, Olamide, and many others.”

Despite recording hundreds of songs, Bjay has officially released about 10. Since parting ways with Greenpage Records, he has released three songs and is focused on his upcoming EP. “I’m working on an EP and I’ll be dropping a single from it soon,” he revealed.

Bjay also reflected on the challenges he has faced, particularly after leaving his former record label. He has remained active in producing music for artists, working on film soundtracks, and creating advertisements for major brands like Adron Homes, Truecaller, and Lafarge. “Since leaving my former record label, I’ve been busy with various projects, including producing music for both gospel and secular artists and working on movie soundtracks and advertising jingles,” he said.
