Since the liver breaks down alcohol, excessive drinking can overload the liver, leading to liver inflammation, alcoholic hepatitis, or even liver cirrhosis. Therefore, it is important to avoid excessive alcoholic consumption. In addition, diets high in saturated and trans fats can contribute to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a condition characterized by the buildup of fat in the liver and should be avoided. Sugar-laden beverages like soda and fruit juices can contribute to fatty liver disease and insulin resistance, increasing the risk of liver damage. Processed foods often contain high levels of additives, preservatives, and unhealthy fats, which can burden the liver and impair its function over time. Excessive sodium consumption, commonly found in processed and fast foods, can contribute to fluid retention and liver damage. Consumption of red and processed meats has been linked to an increased risk of NAFLD and liver cancer due to their high fat and chemical content.
