Having seen the plight of the Nigerian youth, budding hip-hop music singer, Edward Ibisi, a.k.a Mr. Smyles has chosen to stand up for them by speaking out their frustrations in his newly released music album titled ‘Who you be’.
Speaking on the inspiration and message of the entire album during a chat, he detailed gory frustration, disorientation that, discouragement, misconception, etc the Nigerian youths have had and continue to grapple with in their quest for Eldorado.
He said, “As the leader or speaker of youths, the concept of my release is centered on the masses, especially the youths. Take a look at our environment or society and look at the numbers of less privileged and displaced youths, it’s quite alarming. The youths have been undermined and a lot of youths have lost focus because of the perceived orientation the leaders are sending out to the public. The youths, being innocent have every tendency to assume that these misguidances are the rightful norms that every youth needs to follow in order to succeed and survive having seen the so called leader accruement.
Harping on the bad legacy the leadership of the country has been laying down for the youth over the years, he noted, “Naturally, every person is looking forward to be like somebody and this is more in the lifestyle of the youths than any other category of human being; which brings about the strange culture practiced by society. Having seen it as a legacy for success evidently shown in the making of wealth by these so called leaders, this has generated desperation in everyone, especially the middle class in the society and all forms of indiscipline and nuisance acts of corruption becomes a legality that no one frowns about.
Speaking further, he said, “For me and majority of the youths like my kind, we refuse to be a nuisance that the leaders want us to be and I remain committed to the progress and prosperity of this country. Therefore I am enjoining youths out there to remain dedicated in words of the national pledge and anthem as it reads and not to join the band of created nuisance that the so called leaders have risen but to remain focused and work on potentials highlighted by zodiac signs”.
