THE Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has advised Nigerian leaders, especially those with political power, to do things right.
The group also asked the citizens to do what is right at all times for the nation’s prosperity.
In a message to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad this year, the group said the exemplary character of the Holy Prophet made him an outstanding leader.
In the message, released by its national coordinator Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, in Ilorin, Kwara State, the MMWG said it observed absence of discipline and integrity in many leaders and this was responsible for lack of good governance in the country.
The group called on Nigerians to take their destiny in their hands by being selective in the choice of their representatives and leaders in the next general elections.
It commended President Muhammad Buhari on his achievements so far in area of infrastructural development, stating that the decay in the nation’s infrastructure had been massive due to corruption.
The group, however, called on the president to step up his anti-corruption fight, especially by seeing to the creation of special courts to deal with outstanding corruption cases.
It also commended the president for seeking global support on fighting insecurity and rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
MMWG stated that the essence of the celebration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad would be lost on Muslims if they jettisoned his ideals of religious commitment, tolerance of the people of other faiths and building of an egalitarian society where the welfare of the underprivileged is prioritised.
