Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, has been commended for initiating the move aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal mortality in Nigeria.
The commendation was made by the Executive Chairman of Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, while speaking at the closing of a five-day implementation design workshop of the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) in Bauchi on Friday.
According to him, the initiative is a very important part of ensuring that pregnant women enjoy safe deliveries while children under five receive the best medical care.
He added, “We in Bauchi State are very happy with the programme, we have keyed into it and will ensure that the initiative is successfully implemented in the selected facilities across the eleven LGAs.”
Rilwanu Mohammed, however, lamented that the remaining nine LGAs exempted from the programme are now susceptible, appealing that they should be considered and incorporated into the programme.
The Executive Chairman also commended the Nigeria Healthcare Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) project, which he said has contributed to the success of the programme under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).
Rilwanu Mohammed then assured that the personnel recruited for the programme are ready to go into the field for implementation, stressing that the government, through the Board, is ready to support.
He also assured that the task force inaugurated for the implementation of the project will be fully supported to ensure that it functions effectively and efficiently.
