McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, on Wednesday, matriculated 984 students.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Francis Igbasan, commended the new students for meeting the university’s high admission standards and encouraged them to strive for academic excellence.
On the other hand, he admonished them to be committed to academic excellence, integrity, and service to society, reassuring them that the university remains committed to providing a conducive learning environment with experienced lecturers, state-of-the-art facilities, and a peaceful atmosphere for intellectual growth.
Vice Chancellor Igbasan stated that the latest admissions (the 13th matriculation) marked an increase in student enrollment across its six colleges ─ Colleges of Law (COLAW), Computing (COLCUM), Allied Health Sciences (COAHS), Natural and Applied Sciences (COLNAS), Humanities, Social and Management Sciences (COHSMAS), and Postgraduate Studies (COPOS), alongside the Centre for Continuing Education.
Professor Igbasan, speaking on the Matriculation Oath the new students were meant to take and its significance, urged them to uphold the university’s core values, stressing that “their primary goal should be to develop themselves academically and morally for future success.”
The Vice-Chancellor advised the students to take their studies seriously and attend all lectures promptly, emphasising that “There are no shortcuts to academic success. Make disciplined choices. Success requires hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to learning.”
Beyond academics, Professor Igbasan underscored the university’s strong spiritual foundation. He reminded students that the university is a faith-based institution and that attendance at the Chapel and other spiritual activities remain mandatory.
He warned against engaging in social vices, such as sexual immorality, drug abuse, and examination malpractice, emphasising that the university has a zero-tolerance policy for such behaviours.
The Acting Registrar, Mr Olufemi Adebowale, administered the Matriculation Oath.
The ceremony concluded with an expression of gratitude from Vice Chancellor Igbasan to parents and guests for their presence.
