For killing his father inside a Mosque in Mai’aduwa Village of Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Bauchi High Court Number Five has sentenced a Middle age man, Umaru Muhammadu Jauro Ori to death by hanging.
While delivering judgement on Wednesday in Bauchi, Presiding Judge, Justice Aliyu Baba Usman stated that having listened to both sides, the prosecution and the defence counsel led by Barrister Chukwuemeka Ikwazu: “The death of the victim was as a result of the act of the accused and the prosecution counsels has proved their case beyond reasonable doubt, thereby found the accused guilty of culpable homicide punishable with death under section 221 of the Bauchi state laws. I hereby sentenced him to die by hanging”.
Justice Aliyu Usman further stated that the Chief State Counsel, Hussein Ishaq Magaji told the court that the accused went into a Mosque in Mai’aduwa Village and stabbed his father with a cutlass on his head and back, as a result, he sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Misau General Hospital where he died the following day from the wounds of the attack contrary to section 221 of the Penal code laws.
He added that the accused denied and pleaded not guilty to the offence during the trial but the prosecution counsel brought ten witnesses in their separate statements recorded by the Police during the investigation which were attached to the documents before the court.
The Judge further stated that Junior brother of the deceased 70-year-old Umar Mohammed Jatau and Junior brother of the accused 26-year-old Ibrahim Muhammadu Jauro Ori stated that the suspect had problem with their father and themselves, a situation which led to the action of the accused.

The witnesses also said that the deceased separate their food with his Junior Brother, Ibrahim and he gave each one of them his farm and after he left their village for over ten months no one knew his whereabouts until the day he came and entered the mosque while they were praying and stabbed their father on his head and back and the father fell down unconscious.
They added that youths in the area pursued him and arrested him because he wanted to run away, they took him to the Police and took the deceased to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment, his body was released to them and he was buried according to Islamic rights.
The suspect in his statement recorded by the Police said: “He has a wife and three children two male one female and he killed his father because his father separated him and his wife when he travelled out to open his eyes and stayed for a long time the deceased divorced his wife, presently he has no wife, secondly, his father separated him with his two brothers, we are not like before after our father gave each one of us his farm.”
Umaru said that when he returned he took a machete and entered the mosque and stabbed his father on his head and back he fell down, “when I run away, the youth pursued me and arrested him they beat him mercilessly and injured his right fingers”.
He further said that they took the late father to the hospital and he died while receiving treatment, Saying: “I have not killed a human being before, I am not an armed robber and this is the first time I killed a human being”.
He further said that his brothers sent him away because he once stole a millet stick from their farm and built a wall they said: “they did not agree and there was a time he stole a ram from a neighbouring village”.
