The elder sister of the slain community leader, Mrs Chinwuba Udechukwu Mbanugo, who spoke to Nigerian Tribune in Awka, the State Capital, when clarifying a petition the family sent to the Police authority , expressed shock that three weeks after her brother was murdered by his assailants, with hands and legs tied with sandbag and blocks, the Police were yet to arrest the culprits.
She said that the Police especially from Force Headquarters, Abuja seemed to be more than interested party in the matter as they had to carte the case file from Anambra State Police Command, Awka to Abuja with the intention to arrest his younger brother, Chinwuba Chinenye for authoring a petition to Police on behalf of the family, in which he alleged that a former National Assembly member, Chief Raphael Okeke had a hand in the alleged murder of his brother.
Mrs Mbanugo said against the opposition of Okeke and his group, Chukwudi floored their candidate to win the President General of the community but they insisted that he should throw in the towel which he resisted.
She said Okeke group destroyed his brother’s farm and house in Oroma -Etiti, which led to a petition by his lawyer, B.O Nwabunwanne, to the Anambra State Police Command against Okeke, alleging threat to his life among others.
She said the whole thing came to a head when on November 15, 2017, her brother was invited by his uncle, one Anekwe Chinwuba to a peace talk, which turned out to be a plot to kill him.
“Three weeks after his death, no arrest has been made, despite the man (Chukwudi), cried to different security agencies in the State especially the police that threats were made on his life but nothing was done and his life was taken from him brutally like a chicken” said Mrs Mbanugo who wept profusely.
She called on all rights activists, lovers of justice and people of good conscience especially Governor Obiano who Chukwudi ‘s support for his re-election caused him his life, to prevail on the police to immediately arrest those behind this dastardly act.
Stressing that Anam people and Anambra people are not barbarians, she said the only thing that will make the soul of his brother rest in peace and heal the deep wound inflicted on the four children he left, his wife and the rest of his immediate family was to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Police Command, Public Relations Officer, in the State, Princess Nkiru Nwode, had confirmed the alleged murder of Chukwudi Chinwuba but said she will not speak more on the matter.
As the efforts to speak with Chief Okeke failed as his number was ringing but refuse to pick his calls.
