THE Christmas and New Year holiday used to be dull and dry in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, compared with other cities like Lagos, Abuja, Calabar e.t.c. where one can easily feel it is Christmas by just visiting the streets which would have been decorated with the theme of Christmas.
This December is definitely going to be a ‘detty’ one for residents of Ibadan as the Oyo State government under the leadership of Engr Seyi Makinde has done an amazing job in beautifying the city of Ibadan. The governor has ignited the festive mood in the state capital by decorating some major roundabouts with Christmas lights and Christmas trees.
Someone coming to Ibadan for the first time could mistake this city of brown roof for Lagos during this festive period.
Excited residents of Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, have been trooping to the Challenge roundabout, Iwo road, Ring Road and State Secretariat where an amazing Christmas decoration has been put place.
The roundabouts that were usually deserted and full of dirt now have beautiful decorations and lots of happy people.
Some go there with their family and friends to take pictures and relax while others go with their lovers just for sightseeing.
Akinpelu Ademola, who had gone to the secretariat roundabout with his family, expressed his joy and happiness over the development in the state.
“This is a wonderful development. The whole state is taking a new turn. Some coming into the city can see beauty all around. It is Christmas and there is reflection of light all over the city.
“I appreciate the effort of the state government in making sure that the environment is lit for Christmas,” he said.
Christopher Araoye, who also visited the same roundabout with his family, commended the effort of the state government on the development.
“I appreciate the aesthetic value put in place and I commend the efforts of those that have made it possible so that people can gather and have the sense of the season. This is a season of love and it brings about the coming together of people to share and experience love.
“I thank the state governor for making this possible for the people of the state.”
Another excited resident, Ayobami Afolabi, stated that such development had never been seen in Ibadan and tagged it a new dawn in the state.
She thanked the state government for giving the people an environment to relax and enjoy the festive period.
At the Challenge roundabout which has also been decorated by the United Bank for Africa (UBA), there is no doubt that residents are also glad. Traders left their wards just to take pictures at the roundabout while children were also seen playing around and shouting. in excitement.
Adekunle Lawal, who stopped by at the roundabout from work, said one could easily mistake Challenge for Lekki in Lagos.
