GOVERNOR of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has described Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the saviour of the nation’s democracy.
Governor Wike who was speaking on Friday in Abonnema at the commissioning of the reconstructed Nyemoni Grammar School said but for Senator Makarfi’s administrative and political sagacity, the PDP will have been a thing of the past.
This was contained in a press statement issued to newsmen in Kaduna by Makarfi’s media aide, Muktar Sirajo.
‘With the way he handled the crisis that beset the PDP after the 2015 elections, the party would have been destroyed and that would have dealt a mortal blow to this democratic dispensation, wike declared.
Wike further stated that the dogged and resilient manner with which Senator Makarfi handled PDP affairs during his sojourn as the Chairman, always insisting on fairness, equity and accommodation was what maintained the balance and boosted the party’s attractiveness.
According to Governor Wike, this was the reason which turned the party into the beautiful bride too, not only serious politicians but also a majority of the people of Nigeria.
Also speaking Senator Ahmed Makarfi said that all the achievements for which he made wouldn’t have been possible without the governor’s support.
‘Wike and other party’s chieftains supported me. I would not have succeeded without their active support and encouragement. Governor Wike and other party leaders whose steadfastness and loyalty to the party made an otherwise difficult assignment relatively easy.
He further contended that Nigerian democracy was indebted to Governor Wike too for refusing to choose the easy way out but staying resolute to ensure that the party was rescued from the hands of undertakers.
Makarfi while thanking the governor for inviting him to commission some projects, further expressed delight at the developmental strides achieved by Wike’s administration in Rivers state, especially in education and provision of infrastructure.
