A group of Christian leaders in Nigeria, united under the banner of the National Solemn Assembly, is calling on Nigerians to come together, unite, and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the growth of Nigeria.
This call comes after the Supreme Court upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu. The church leaders see this victory as a manifestation of God’s will for the country.
These leaders conveyed their message during a prayer rally, which preceded the National Day of Prayer scheduled for December 1, 2023. They also urged opposition parties to accept the election results with good faith, underlining that they have a chance in future elections.
Archbishop Leonard Kefas Bature, Chairman of the Planning Committee for the National Solemn Assembly, called on Nigerians, especially Christians, to actively participate in the ongoing fasting period and intense prayers for the nation. He expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank God because everything that has happened in Nigeria has occurred according to God’s will. So, everyone should join in thanking God for our president and his winning team.”
Archbishop Bature further emphasised, “Nigerians must recognise the fact that, were it not for God, many things would have gone wrong in this country. God has given us a leader, and it is time for all of us to unite and support our president for Nigeria to make rapid progress.”
Dame Comfort Chigbue, the Secretary General of the National Solemn Assembly and National Legal Director of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), explained that the assembly is a non-denominational gathering, welcoming both Christians and non-Christians. She added that prayers during the National Solemn Assembly would address various issues, including rising insecurity and a challenging economy.
Dame Chigbue expressed optimism, saying, “Nigeria is not the only country facing challenges, but Nigerians are cooperative. Our leaders are trying like every other leader. I believe in this country, I believe in the glory of this country, I believe in the unity and justice of this country, that equity will prevail, and people will come to this country and say, ‘I went to a great country called Nigeria.”
