The newly appointed vice-chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has asked all members of the university community to put politics aside and now embrace peace for all to work as a united family.
She made this assertion on Sunday at a church thanksgiving service held in her honour at the university’s Chapel of Light on campus. She had earlier attended a similar service in a Muslim way at the university’s mosque on Friday.
Prof Olatunji-Bello who was at both services with other management staff of the university, family members, friends and well-wishers said she organised the thanksgiving services so as to show appreciation unto God over her appointment into the office.
She said in a statement made available by the university’s spokesman, Mr Ademola Adekoya, that “I am indeed very grateful to God for choosing me and supporting me all the way through the selection process and my appointment amidst so much pressure.
“I am also grateful to everyone for the overwhelming love and support that you have been showing me since I assumed office on Monday.
“Please, I need your prayers and support by working together as a big united family to achieve all my great plans for LASU.“
Speaking further, she said: “When you are doing politics, a lot of things are allowed. But now, politics is over. Let us put politics aside and work for the next five years to make our university the greatest, I need all of you as I can’t do it all alone.*
She, however, promised that her administration would be paying salaries latest on the 23rd of each month and also pay all the salary arrears to deserving workers.
She said her programmes for the university would certainly take LASU to become the best in West Africa in terms of academics, research and excellence.
She appreciated her predecessors for their efforts, saying she is quite aware that it is not easy to have built LASU to the great level it is today.
“So, I will continue from where they stopped and someone else will continue from where I will stop by the grace of God,” she concluded.
