Despite the directives given by the federal and state governments on gathering of not more than 50 worshippers across the country over coronavirus, Christians worship centres in Anambra State were on Sunday filled up with thousands of Christian faithful who came out in their numbers to pray against the global disease.
Tribune Online, who visited some churches in the state capital to ascertain the situation, gathered that at the Christ Holy Church Awka, a lot of worshippers were seen praying tirelessly to cast coronavirus out of Nigeria.
Some prayed that God should send back the virus to whosoever invented it in China.
The head of the Parish, Reverend Alex Anyakorah, who spoke to Tribune Online shortly after the service, commended the government on its quick response to curtail the virus. He said that Christians are not against the government directives, but the individual prayers at home in a critical situation like this may not help the devilish scourge.
He said, “The large turnout you witness today in this church follows the directive given by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that all Christians across the country should pray against coronavirus and also our one-year anniversary celebration.”
Anyakorah, therefore, called on all orientation agencies in the country to intensify the awareness campaign to protect the citizens against the dreaded pandemic.

At Winners Chapel and Dunamis Church also, there was a large turnout. Worshippers prayed along with their general overseers, Bishop David Oyedipo and Pastor Paul Eneche, via television and were sighted raining causes against the spirit of coronavirus.
Again, at the Province 1 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Awka, Christian believers were equally seen praying fervently, casting the pandemic “back to the sender.”
Pastor of the province, Pastor Emmanuel Kayode, who spoke to Tribune Online, said they had no choice than to obey because the church’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, ordered all branches to obey the preventive directive given by the federal and state government as law-abiding citizens.
