Lagos empowers VIS with 36 operational vehicles, 20 power bikes

LAGOS State governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has empowered the Vehicle Inspection Services (VIS) with 20 bikes, 25 pickup vans and 11 saloon cars for its operation in the state as part of his administration’s efforts geared toward transforming Lagos into Africa model mega city that is safe, secured and functional.

Making the presentation at the VIS yard, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, on behalf of Governor Ambode, the acting commissioner for transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi, said the gesture was designed to strengthen existing ones through provision of institutional support for optimal service delivery.

The governor noted that the present administration had continued to provide working equipment to compliment road infrastructure renewal in the state to mitigate various challenges facing transportation sector in Lagos.

Governor Ambode expressed confidence that those operational vehicles and power bikes would go a long way to enhance the performance of VIS while also promoting safety and security of motorists and commuters alike.

He enjoined VIS personnel to make good use of the vehicles and the power bikes in order to reciprocate the state government gesture and investment in Transportation Sector of the state.

Part of the event activities was the inspection of the newly built Ojodu Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre.

At the centre, the VIS officers demonstrated the procedures of inspections and checks a vehicle would go through before being certified and fit to obtain a Road Worthiness Certificate (RWC).

The governor, after the inspection, disclosed that the state government intended to have the computerized vehicle inspection centres scattered all over the state, adding that in the next six months, 10 of such centers would be ready with additional ones to be put in place in all the local governments of the state.

In his response, the Director Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, urged all motorists to make it a point of duty to maintain their vehicles at all times in order to reduce carnages on the road.

He said the state government had spent a lot of resources to put the test centres in place in compliance with global standard.
