In furtherance to its urban renewal programme and development in Lagos, the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development has embarked on constrcution of VIP chalets at Epe, in Epe Local Government Area.

The upgrading included the renovation of the existing four blocks of three-bedroom flats; nine blocks of two units one-bedroom flat; and construction of 12 blocks of four units 1-bedroom flat.

It also includes construction of swimming pool, lawn tennis court, mini football pitch, gymnasium, restaurant, administrative block and landscaping/beautification.

Others are road networks and rehabilitation of Governor’s Lodge.

The urban renewal programme also extends to the Central Business District (CBD), with provision of what officials described as ‘state-of-the-art’ modern standardised power bikes laden with two big cylinders fire extinguisher.

The equipment, according to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, was designed to be the first to arrive at scenes of emergency, irrespective of traffic situation.

Besides, the urban renewal programme involved demolition os shanties and illegal structures in and around Idumota pedestrian bridge, thus, providing opportunity for the people to make use of it, since it has been abandoned for a long time, due to the presence of the shanties.

However, the chalet redevelopment project is in tandem with the ongoing “Rehabilitation of Strategic/Arterial/Inner Roads in Epe Local government”, that officials say is at 70 per cent completion stage.

Roads involve include: Lagos Road, Oke Osho/T Junction, Aiyetoro/ Roundabout; Central Mosque Junction/Orita Marun Stream, all categorised as ‘Grade A’.

Others are Oloja Estate; Bature/ Otunba Adeniyi/Omotayo/Uthman Mustapha and Raman/Ishawu Owolabi, which are in category ‘B’.

Added to the road expansion is the ongoing «Dubai-Epe Marina Waterfront», the concept, according to the officials, is to replicate what is happening in Dubai, Singapore, Disneyland in the United States of America (USA) among others, where tourism, entertainment, amusement and relaxation had gotten to the higher level.

The project is planned to have following facilities and infrastructurej: Civic Center for Special purposes, Food Venue, Civic Square, Museum Aquarium, Boat Club and Boating services, Dock Amusement, Arcade and Landscape Playing Ground.

Others are Promenade Ancilary, General Parking, Retail Parking in Buffer zone, Landscaped Sitting Zone, Ferry Services and Fast food centres.

Another facilities designed for the project are Retail Shop2 and 3, Sport Bar on the first floor, including muiti-purpose Hall, Amphitheater and Band Shell; Civic Pavilion, Volley Ball Courts and Artificial Beach with Active Sports, Children’s Playground, Ferry Terminal/ Boat House and Fast-Food Court.

In addition, there the project will host Multi-Purpose Hall, Boat Club, Amusement Park.Museum, Aquarium and many others.

«In essence, this tripod development approach embarked upon is to take developmental level in Epe Township to a higher level, a situation the community may not dream about in next 50 years», said an indigene, Mr. Sunkanmi Agoro, who said the Chalet redevelopment project is as unique as other ones put in place by Governor Ambode›s administration.
