KWARA Youth Network (KYN), an organisation with 30 per cent of youth membership in Kwara State, has declared its support for governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdurahman Abdulrasaq, and the party’s candidate in the Central senatorial district, Yahaya Oloriegbe.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday, members of the organisation, who said that the group was hitherto non-partisan explained that it took the decision because godfatherism had caused underdevelopment in the state, saying that the trend must stop.
The youth group said it had conducted an investigation on the background of the two APC candidates and found that they are competent and worthy of being entrusted with the political leadership of the state and the senatorial district respectively.
Assistant Director of Publicity of the KYN, Jimoh Ibrahim, who spoke on behalf of the organisation said that the APC flagbearer is an independent-minded person who is not likely to fall into the influence of any godfather while describing Oloriegbe, a former Majority Leader in the state House of Assembly, as a selfless leader who has helped his constituency with developmental projects and aided indigent students with scholarship award.
Ibrahim said that his organisation had registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) since 200, adding that it had since then been engaging in nonpartisan but political enlightenment activities that included voter education and sensitisation of youths about governance.

He said it became imperative for the association to align with a political party this time because resources of the state had allegedly been poorly managed in the last 16 years.
“Kwara state has in the last 16 years been in political bondage which has in no small measure crippled its socio-political, economic and educational developments compare with its counterparts in Nigeria. Most of the problems were products of bad leadership and lack of sincerity on one hand and parasitic godfatherism on the other hand,” he stated.
Ibrahim called on youths in the state to vote for the two APC candidate whom he said are tested trusted and sellable while also canvassing votes for Mohammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the APC.
‘On behalf of the over 30 per cent of youths in Kwara state who are our members across the 16 L.G.As, we hereby not only declaring our unflinching support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid, but also reiterating our full support for the APC gubernatorial candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, the Kwara Central Senatorial District candidate, Dr Yahaya Oloriegbe and all other APC candidates to ensure their victory in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
“We have confidence in them as they are tested and trusted, as well as sellable candidates who will take Kwara to the next level. I wish to call on Kwara youths across the state to come out en-mass and vote massively for President Muhamadu Buhari, Abdulrasaq, Dr Oloriegbe and other APC candidates so that we can collectively reap the true dividend of democracy,” he stated.
