The Oganenigu Community Development Association (OCDA), in Kogi State, has raised the alarm over the alleged killing of a farmer by herdsmen in Oganenigu Aloko community in Dekina Local Government Area of the state.
A leader of the association, Mr Yakubu Ocholi, said the farmer, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Oganenigu ward, Mr Sunday Etu, was murdered and dumped beside his motorcycle on his way to farm by herdsmen.
Ocholi, who is also the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Yahaya Bello on Emergency Management, described the incident as unfortunate and pathetic as his people could no longer go to farm again since the sad incident happened.
“We have police post in the community where the matter was reported; we have also informed the Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters in Kogi East and the State Security Adviser to our Governor. I just came back from my community this morning.
“What we really want now is for the government and the security agencies to come to our aid by deploying more armed personnel to safeguard the lives and property of our people and to prevent further attack on innocent farmers
“The major occupation of our people is predominantly farming and we have over 28 other local villages around with the same farming activities.
“If this menace is not tackled now, then the hunger that our people are currently experiencing will be doubled because none of our farmers can go to their farms now.
“As an association, we have written a letter to the state government for assistance and support to have security presence in our area,” Ocholi said.
