Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Adeleke Mamora, on Monday, commissioned 11 health facilities projects built by the management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Birnin-Kebbi, with a charge to FMC across the country to operates closely with their host communities.
The projects that were commissioned comprises of Molecular Laboratory and flamelss incinerator, 10 bed intense care unit, NHIS complex, Drug information Center, out patient Dispensing unit and digital X-Ray Machines.
Others are amenity ward, Maternity Complex phase 1and foundation laying of phase 2, House Officers’ Quarters, power House, and C-arm Machines, Theatre equipments and instruments.
Dr. Mamora said that the projects are classical manifestation of the Federal Ministry of Healthcare efforts to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic and provide affordable heath care to Nigerians.
He called on the Hospital authentic and beneficiaries to observe stricts mainteinance culture so that the facilities could last longer.
“I can not conclde this speech without reminding the management of this Centre of the critical importance of the gigantic projects we are commissioning today on the maintenance culture of the projects,” he said.
Earlier, the Medical Director of the Center, Dr. Aliyu Balarabe stated that the Federal Government was able to complete the projects with the determination of the Federal Ministry of Health to build a robust health care infrastructure in line with the transformation agenda of the Ministry of Health.
He explained that the Hospital is one of the leading refferal Centres providing accessible, affordable and qualitative emergency care, in patient care, outpatient care and other specialized services.
Pointing out that, the population has grown to over 100,000 out patients and 13,000 in patient admission annually.
“Our specialized procedures includes, Endoscope procedures, Laparoscope surgeries, Endourologic procedures, total knee and hip replacement surgeries as well as spine decompression and stabilization procedures.” he added.
Also at the occasion, the Director General of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu who was represented by his Director Health Emergency, Dr. John Oladele stated that before the start of pandemic the the disease control had notified the trends in transmission of COVID-19.
He added that laboratories were named out, planing was also made to scale up capacity of Health workers as well as ussuing out advisories.
The NCDC according to him has reduced COVID-19 pandemic natonwide in its question for health security of the Nigeria people.
Dr. Ikweazu also pointed out that the NCDC has deployed unique surveillance system throughout the country aimed at receiving relevant data and paved the way for quick decisions and intervention.
