Supreme Court abruptly rose when one of the seven Justices hearing the appeal in the 2019 Kano State governorship election suddenly took ill during the proceedings.
This happened shortly after counsel representing Abbah Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) adopted his brief and urged the apex court to allow the appeal.
On noticing the health condition of one of the Justices, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad, who presided over the seven-member panel of Justices announced that the court will have to abruptly rise.
The CJN told the crowded court that one of the Justices hearing the case is critically sick.

Consequently, the CJN led other six Justices out of the court to their chambers to enable them to attend to the ailing member of the panel.
As at the time of this report, lawyers with about 30 SANs are waiting for the return of the panel to the court to continue with the proceedings.
Other appeals, apart from that of Kano slated for hearing today, which the court is expected to deliver judgment are, Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Plateau, Sokoto and IMO states.
