The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Landscaping and Beautification Agency Bill 2025 into law, which prohibits indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state.
When signed into law by the governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the law provides that a culprit shall be fined not more than N25,000 or as prescribed by a judge.
However, the bill was considered in the committee of the whole house and third reading by the deputy clerk of the house, Alhaji Nasiru Magaji, and later passed into law by the speaker, Hon. Ismail Falgore, who presided over the plenary, on Monday.
While highlighting some of the agency’s responsibilities, the majority leader of the house, Hon. Lawan Husseini, told journalists that the agency would ensure setting up of gardens for relaxation, planting of flowers and prevent indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roundabouts, drainages, bridges and roads within the state metropolis and capital city of all local government areas.

He stated that the agency will also prevent the indiscriminate throwing of trash and spits from moving vehicles, checkmate open defecation and also make the city look beautiful among others.
He however disclosed that when signed into law by the governor, the law provides that a culprit shall be fined not more than N25,000 or as prescribed by a judge.
Adding that “the agency will be under a board comprising a chairman and ten members including professionals like architects who are knowledgeable of engineering and beautification.”
