Epilepsy is characterized by a change in the brain’s electrical activity, which leads to seizures. The causes of epilepsy can include genetics, a history of brain injury, stroke, developmental disorders, or infections, but in about half of all cases, the cause is unknown. In view of this, epilepsy is not contagious and cannot be spread from person to person.
It is a neurological disorder, not an infection, that can be caused by factors like genetics, head injuries, or other medical conditions, but many cases have an unknown cause. You cannot “catch” epilepsy from someone else through contact or interaction.
