IRI partners Bauchi govt on effective service delivery 

International Republican Institute, (IRI) is set to partner Bauchi State government in order to address issues militating against effective service delivery in the state for better governance.

The announcement was made by the Resident Program Director, IRI in Nigeria, Mrs Angela Wambugu during a courtesy visit to the Bauchi Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir on Tuesday at the Government House.

She told the Governor that the visit was to intimate him on the activities of the Institute in Nigeria as well as to seek partnership with his administration to address the challenges of service delivery in the state.

According to her, the Institute is working with political parties to ensure the advancement of democracy by providing lawmakers with the required knowledge so as to meet the needs of members of their various constituencies.

Angela Wabungu said that “Your Excellency, our institute is currently conducting some programs in states of Bauchi, Adamawa, Sokoto and Ebonyi to support political parties to deliver on their manifestos”.

Angela Wambugu also used the medium to request the Governor for the appointment of more women in his administration so as to ensure their needs are been included in decision making.

While responding, the Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed welcomed the partnership with the IRI on the delivery of good governance.

Bala Mohammed pointed out that, for him to deliver as expected and meet the huge expectations of the citizens, he would ensure regular consultations with them so as to meet their basic needs.

The Governor said, “I can only meet the huge expectations of the citizens who voted me massively into power if I relate with them. Government is not only the governor or the deputy, is a collective responsibility for all.”

The Governor then pledged partnership with the Institute as part of efforts to improve on ensuring good governance and deepen the democratic system of the country.

” I thank you for adding value to the operations of our political parties especially my party the People’s Democratic Party in addition to providing human capital development”, he added.

The Governor applauded International Republican Institute for focusing on the training of political office holders especially lawmakers, expressing confidence that it will go along way in ensuring effective service delivery.

On leakages and other corrupt practices in the management of the state’s data, the Governor stressed the need for all hands to be on deck in order to sanitise the system.

The Governor then informed members of the institute that his administration is working in active synergy with members of the state house of assembly despite some of them are from the opposition parties.
