The new Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr Bolaji Adebiyi has assured workers, employers and all other stakeholders in the labour sector that his era will witness industrial peace and harmony in the sector.
Adebiyi, who took over from the acting permanent secretary who is also the Director of Finance and Account in the ministry, Mr Omoniyi Ezekiel Fagbemi, said he would work towards peace in Nigeria’s volatile but vibrant labour movement.
Speaking with Nigerian Tribune, the permanent secretary said he had already assured all the staff of the ministry and the ministers in charge of his readiness to support them in achieving the mandates of the ministry, especially towards the change agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
“I have promised to work together with the two ministers and workers in this very important ministry to achieving the mandate of the ministry; in line with the Change Agenda of the Federal Government,” he said.
He, however, charged the staff to perform their expected roles to enable the ministry achieve this very important role; adding that their role is to advise the ministers appropriately, without favour.
Adebiyi said: “As good civil servants, our key role is to advise our minister. I am here to support and advise the ministers in the Ministry of Labour on how to achieve the mandate of the Change Agenda of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The government has an agenda to pursue and our role as civil servants is to do all we can to give them good advice and the needed support.”
He advised the staff to be dedicated to duty and uphold the ethics of their profession for effective service delivery.
He further assured the staff of his resolve to add value and make a positive difference.
The permanent secretary said: “Let us abide by the ethics of this job by being hard working, dedicated, honest and disciplined. The ethics and principles of our profession are very clear, let us try our best to challenge the junior officers as role models by leading by example and playing our role to achieve the objectives of the ministry.
“As for me, I have resolved to add value and make a positive difference in the ministry; as the permanent secretary, my doors are open to contributions and innovative ideas on how to move the ministry forward.”
He said their welfare will be very paramount to him, assuring that none will be denied of their rights and privileges.
He told them to therefore be ready to reciprocate this by hard work and dedication to duty.
