Members of the umbrella socio-cultural body of all Igbomina youths and youth groups in Igbomina land, the Igbomina Youth Assembly (IYA), have commended the development efforts of the present administration in Kwara state, especially on the appointment of competent indigenes of the area.
In a statement by the president of the group, Engineer Jimoh Rasheed Temitope, said that a case study was the siting of the College of Nursing Sciences at Oke-Ode, an Igbomina land in the Ifelodun local government area of the state.
“It is clear that the siting of tertiary institutions is one of the major factors that do cause speedy development in the host community, and we want to say Oke-Ode has not been an exception. On behalf of the Oke-Ode community and the entire Igbomina land, we are very grateful for this,” he said.
The people, who also appreciated Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his disposition and passion towards the youth and their development, said such was demonstrated through policies, patronage, and engagement in governance.
“We want to emphatically say that the appointment of the incumbent College Provost, Mr Quadri Olanrewaju Lamidi, since October 2022, is a blessing to the College and Oke-Ode community at large considering the innovation and developmental strides the College has received through him since his assumption of office as the College Provost,” he said.
Members of the IYA said that the provost of the college had recorded some achievements among the staff and students, such as:
1. Commencement of computer-based testing (CBT) for students’ examinations within the campus.
2. Establishment of two additional schools (the School of Midwifery and the School of Public Health Nursing) in the college.
3. Procurement of a coaster bus for the mobilisation of students on clinical postings.
4. Installation of solar power facilities to augment electricity supply on campus.
5. Appointment of qualified lecturers to provide standard training to the students.
6. Completion of the abandoned water project and the two blocks of classrooms donated by the Oke-Ode community, which are now at 90% completion.
7. Conduct two successful major accreditations in the college with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and the National Board for Technical Education.
8. Construction of a befitting football field and provision of other sporting facilities to enhance the extracurricular activities of the students and staff.
9. Inclusion of the college entry on the UTME list of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board.
10. Refurbishment of the hostel for students at the Kwara State Specialist Hospital, Oke-Ode.
The people, who said that the shock of loss in the bid to host the Kwara State University of Education in Igbomina Land was still being felt, added that it became imperative for them to guide, monitor, and protect the few ones they have at hand.
“We humbly request from His Excellency that you please support the current leadership of the college under Mr Quadri Olanrewaju Lamidi to ensure the sustainability of the development being enjoyed by the college and, by extension, the host community.
“His Excellency’s continued support will empower the Provost to keep promoting the good work of his administration in our beloved institution.”
