Igala women from the Kogi East Senatorial District of Kogi state have asked the Kogi Central Senatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Barr. Natasha Akpoti to contest the State governorship seat scheduled to take place in November this year.
The women made the call yesterday when they played a courtesy visit on Natasha in Abuja to express their support and endorsement for the Senatorial candidate of the SDP in the 1999 general election.
According to the leader of the delegation, Princes Umulhani Otokiti said Kogi women are proud and believed that Natasha has all it takes to govern Kogi state, which she said had suffered setbacks under governor Yahaya Bello.
The women leader expressed the hope that Natasha, a lawyer, will break the record in emerging the first female governor in the county.
Natasha, she held will give the people of Kogi state the dividends of democracy as God has endowed her with the quality of good leadership, which will use to bring rapid development to the state.
In her response, Natasha, who contested the Senatorial seat of Kogi Central in the last election said she will give consideration to the call of the women from the Kogi East region of the state.
She said she has all it takes to govern the state, even as she vowed to redeem her stolen mandate in the 2019 National Assembly election held in the state.
Natasha said she is optimistic that the Tribunal will do justice in her petition challenging the outcome of the election, adding that she was robbed of her mandate.
Natasha said, with the votes and support she got from Kogi youths and women, she will win the governorship elected if she decides to give it a trial as appealed by women from the Kogi East.
The Senatorial candidate said, it is high time women break borders in the politics of the country, just as she called on the federal government to encourage women participation in politics.
She said, the country with more women in the leadership position will be faced with less corruption and lamented that, “Women are made to go through torture, in their effort to have the opportunity to contribute their quota to the development of the country.
Recalled that Natasha had petitioned Yakubu Oseni of All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), challenging the conduct of the election and praying to be declared the winner of the election, having scored the highest lawful votes.
The Tribunal, which sits in Abuja has slated May 22, 2019, to continue in the pre-hearing of petitions challenging the outcome of the National Assembly election in Kogi state.
