What have you been up to lately?
I have been busy with my career; at present, I am working on three singles, which will be released soon before the end of the first half of the year. These songs are great tunes that will be appreciated by people and those that will listen to it.
How many albums have you produced so far?
I have released two albums. The Holy Spirit inspired the two albums. It was neither an ambition nor my wish to ever have an album. I didn’t plan to release an album, but I was led by the Holy Spirit to release those songs and His leading has made me who I am today. It was a smooth sail recording the works, though the devil tried to stop me from making my first album see the light of day, but God eventually had His way. I thank the Lord for the grace and divine success I have enjoyed in my career.
What is your take on the gospel genre of music in Nigeria?
It is a good thing that the industry is growing and achieving its primary goal by propagating the gospel of Christ. Though we still need to develop ourselves and remain focus in winning souls and spreading the gospel. I want to charge all gospel ministers to ensure that God should be our major motive for singing. Personally, I am very passionate about two things; God and music.
Do you support the notion that gospel artistes should be paid for performing, or should see it as ministry?
According 1 Corinthians Chapter 9 and verse 11, gospel artistes obviously need more support and patronage than they are getting now and it differs from church to church.
Who are your role models within and outside the music sector?
My mentors are my spiritual fathers, General Overseer of the Living Faith Church, Canaanland Bishop David Oyedepo, and our resident pastor, Pastor David Oyedepo Jnr. Papa Oyedepo has been my source of inspiration and I have greatly benefited from his anointing. In music, I have so much respect for Nathaniel Bassey, Frank Edward and the American singer, Marvin Sapp.
What has been your major challenge?
The only challenge I can remember, which turned out to be a blessing, was when someone said to me that music was not my calling. But I thank God that the story has changed today; the same person is proud of me by the grace of God, as well as celebrating God’s grace upon my life today.
How long have you been into music?
I have been a minister in the Faith Tabernacle choir for more than nine years and God has been faithful to me. Interestingly, my wife and I are in this together. Though it is challenging, God has made it an interesting experience. I would not say that music puts food on my table; God does. The blessing of the Lord makes one rich; not the music. Breaking into the mainstream wasn’t difficult, because I enjoyed God’s favour.
What message do you have for your fans?
I want to advise them to follow their passion and not to ever give up. Those mocking you today will end up celebrating you tomorrow if you do not give up.
