BK GMB is a fast-rising rap sensation who has been touted as one of those to watch in the industry. ROTIMI IGE caught up with him recently to discuss his craft, among other issues. Excerpts:
How would you describe yourself?
I am BK GMB, a rap musician, hypeman and radio host.
How do you interpret music?
Music, to me, is life and I’m so passionate about it because I believe strongly that it is what I’m called to do to affect people around me.
How has your journey in music been so far?
It’s been rough, tough and rocky for the most part but it has offered some great memories too so it’s like a bitter sweet experience. I would consider my journey a very blessed one because against all odds, I’m still standing.

What challenges are you facing right now?
Well, we face challenges every other day in whatever endeavor we chose to undertake in life, so I have had my fair share of those too like any other growing brand in the music business looking to conquer the world with their content. Those challenges basically range from marketing my content to get more exposure and the means to get it out there.
Are we expecting any new projects?
Oh yes! 2019 is on already and we hit the ground running with new music that dropped a couple of weeks back titled “Turnioniown” and also “O pepe” which is a collaborative project with my music partner Roygang. We have the video of “O pepe” already slated to be released soon and I am also getting ready to shoot the video for “Turnioniown” as soon as possible.
Tell us a bit about your previous projects.
We did well with the BK Covered GMB season mixtape in 2014 which gave me great cover singles like “Keke Napep”, “Turn down for what” and also early in 2015, I released “Ibadan Boi” after which we took a short hiatus from music to sort personal affairs. But it’s 2019 and I am back and better with additional vibes to my sound to give the fans of my music that they crave.
Are we expecting any major collaboration soon and who is on your list?
Well, presently I’m building a strong foundation for my sounds as I redefine what the BK GMB brand is about and expanding my vision and interests not just in releasing music content. I am also pushing to the fore my other strengths as both a TV and radio host and a fitness enthusiast by creating a strong online presence through YouTube videos and building a strong following for that of my brand. How do you balance your day job as a radio host and also time to be an artiste?
It is no news that shuffling things like this can be very challenging but I have been doing it for a while now and I think I am getting a hang of what it really takes and the sacrifices too. So to that, I would say I’m handling things way better than I used to and making slow but steady progress in all.
Ultimately what is your goal in music?
I am not sure I can ever drop the mic because once a compere, you always remain one. I do this for life simply because I derive fulfillment in what I do. It is part of me and I can never give it up and I would say ultimately, my goal is to raise and impact the next generation of rappers like myself to take it higher than I did.
Finally what makes you so different from other artistes in the industry?
I believe everyone is different and unique. It’s that simple. We all came into the industry with different reasons and various things motivate us. My motivation to achieve my dreams differentiates me from others.
