How my legal practice contributes to youth, community empowerment — Dr Issa Adedokun

Legal practitioner and academician, Prince Issa Akanji Adedokun, Ph.D., a Doctor of Philosophy in Private and Property Law, has reiterated his commitment to youth development, public service, and community empowerment through impactful contributions to legal practice and advocacy.

According to him, his multifaceted contributions to academia, legal practice, and social activism serve as a testament to his commitment to justice, equity, and the rule of law.

“My involvement in international legal forums and moot court competitions underscores my dedication to advancing legal scholarship and promoting global cooperation in the pursuit of justice,” he said.

Adedokun, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2011, recalled how he embarked on a journey marked by a relentless pursuit of justice and equality.

One of the distinguishing facets of Adedokun’s career is his unwavering dedication to human rights activism and pro bono legal services, championing the cause of the less privileged.

As a member of various NGOs, including the Boards of Trustees of Wear A Flag Initiatives (WAFI) and The Nexus for Justice and Humanitarian Aids Initiative, he exemplifies the values of compassion and altruism.

Currently serving as a lecturer in the Department of Private and Property Law at the University of Lagos, Adedokun also holds the position of secretary at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja Branch.

Speaking about his recent feat that saw him bag the award of excellence for his outstanding Ph.D. thesis in Humanities at the 54th convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos, Adedokun said he’s inspired to keep serving the people and community.

Dr ADedokun who heads the Litigation Department of AD Attorneys, a leading corporate and commercial law practice in Lagos, where he’s contributing to various sectors, including labor, electricity, oil and gas transactions, and criminal law.

Adedokun’s recent doctoral research on ‘Moderate Rent Control Approach as a Mechanism of Maintaining Balance of Interests between Landlords and Tenants in Lagos State – Nigeria, exemplifies his intellectual rigour and commitment to addressing pressing societal issues.

Through his Ph.D. thesis, he offers a nuanced analysis of rent control legislation and its implications for affordable housing, drawing on economic welfare, personhood, libertarian, and moderate theories to propose viable solutions to the housing challenge.
